UFO ALERT! MB14 USES NOTHING BUT HIS VOICE AS HIS ONLY INSTRUMENT, PLUS A LOOPSTATION THAT BUILDS COMPLETE SONGS LOOP BY LOOP.

 

MB14 is a 24-year-old artist from Amiens.

After writing his first rap lyrics as a teenager, MB14 started practising, at the age of 15, what is known as "Human Beatbox", the art of imitating all kinds of musical instruments and sounds with your mouth.

Finding inspiration online in vocal artists such as Naturally 7, Pentatonix, Tom Thum, Eklips, Poolpo, Saïan Supa Crew and Beardyman, MB14 experiments and spends hours every day perfecting his beatbox, his voice, his sense of rhythm, his imitations and sound effects, letting his sonic creativity overflow like a true mad scientist.

In 2013, MB14 discovered the tool that would change his life: the Loopstation, a machine that instantly records and layers voices, rhythms and all kinds of sounds. With it, MB14 composes, writes, performs and covers standards in every style (Hip-Hop, Reggae, Classical, Rock...) and spent 2 years playing stages across Picardy, solo or with a band.

In 2015, MB14's name grew online after he took part in the Grand Beatbox Battle, an international Beatbox & Loopstation tournament held every year in Switzerland.

MB14 didn't win the tournament but made a name for himself in the international beatbox community thanks to his musicality and extraordinary vocal abilities.

​

But it was in 2016 that MB14's life took an unprecedented turn in his young career. Through a video posted on YouTube, he was discovered by the team of Bruno Berbérès, then casting director of THE VOICE SEASON 5, the talent show broadcast on TF1. After much hesitation, MB14 agreed to take part and on 14 May 2016 made it all the way to the final of his season, just behind Slimane.

Following his much-noticed appearance on the show, MB14 went on to perform, release viral videos and collaborate, and began a long national tour with his group Berywam, made up of renowned French beatboxers (Wawad, Beatness and Rythmind) and co-produced by Bleu Citron and Bigflo & Oli.

​

Together they won the title of French beatbox champions in 2016, then 2 years later the title of 2018 world team champions in Berlin.

​

2018, a year of independence, also saw the release of his first project: a 7-track EP entitled "AMBITUS", a term used in classical music for the range between the highest and lowest notes of an instrument or a voice.

​

This EP, produced, written, composed, performed and arranged by MB14, and recorded/mixed/mastered by his Amiens partner LittleBigRecords, has the distinctive feature of containing no instruments at all: every sound and instrument on the project is purely vocal and performed by MB14.

​

Swinging between hip-hop and lyrical singing, between world music and electronic sound effects, and tackling existential themes such as life, death, nostalgia, artistic doubt and even time travel, MB14 shows you the way with his voice and takes you on a sonic adventure, a true auditory illusion.​​
